LET GOD’S NAME BE GLORIFIED
Do our hearts and minds tend to places of miracles or the abode of God? The difference on the periphery may appear quite subtle but, it makes a huge difference. The first is an attraction towards a place, the latter is an attraction to God. The first is ‘I’ centered the second is ‘God’ centered. When we are attracted to a place of miracles, we are seeking a God, who is only a problem solver and stays out of one’s life. But if we seek the dwelling of God himself, it is a desire for a personal god who loves and cares for each one. People were attracted by the miracles performed by the apostles and flocked around them, they sought a problem solver. The apostles correct them saying, it is by Christ that they performed wonders thus showing the way to Jesus himself.
When one seeks God not for personal benefit, but for God himself then their life transforms. To do this the first step is to clear the way for the Lord, to keep our hearts clean and then to acknowledge Jesus as our personal saviour and seek him for who He is. Miracles indeed enthral us but we must focus on the source, not the instruments. The work of a pen is to write down the ideas of an author and does not contain the author’s mind in itself. When ordinary fishermen could perform astounding miracles, they could have very well claimed to be the source themselves, thus, earning name and fame. But they rather chose to bend before the power of God, the ever-living God of Israel.
Let our lives then be not of demonstration, but of indication; indication to the ones who seek true happiness and indication to those who seek Christ. Saint John Paul II said that those who seek happiness are actually seeking Christ himself. May Mary our mother guide us, the word of God enlighten us and may prayer empower us. Let God’s name be glorified.
Response: O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name through all the earth!
