SATURDAY, TWENTY FIRST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
1 Thes 4: 9-11; Ps 98: 1, 7-8, 9; Mt 25: 14-30
THE TALENTS BESTOWED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
As a good Christian, whenever I read this parable of Talents from the gospel, I am forced by my inner spirit to tear myself into pieces. Because on the day of my baptism and confirmation, I was sealed by the holy spirit, to call God as Abba Father, to remain grateful for his love for me and to share and to live in that love. But have I become the third servant? who hid the talent of grace, given by my master of life, and waiting to return the same Grace without using it for the expansion of the kingdom and glory of God. To be a good Christian, one needs to know and practice the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit in life. Because they lead and guide us to come closer to Jesus Christ. With the reactivating of the grace within us, we are made able to imitate Christ.
I am a baptised Christian, but do I represent Christ to my neighbour in my daily Christian living? Most of the time “No” because we practice everything without genuine Love. Remember the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John (13:34-35), where he says “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” The great Carmelite mystic, Saint John of the Cross says, “In the evening of life, we will be judged on love alone.”
Our empty actions should not say that we know Christ, but rather our life of love must manifest the presence of God who is love in our lives. Remember the words of Saint Paul to the Romans, (5:5), “the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the holy spirit.” Now is the time to get into the deeper level of acknowledging the presence of the Holy Spirit in me, to multiply the Grace of God into sharing Love. Love is the fundamental identity of every baptised Christian in the imitation of Christ.
