1 Cor 6: 1-11              Ps 149: 1-6, 9             Lk 6: 12-19

POWER OF CONTEMPLATION AND ACTION

The Prayer Life of Jesus: The place of prayer narrated in the gospel is the mountain. The time and duration of prayer also is mentioned: all night he continued in praying. Jesus prayed for long hours in silence and solitude. His prayer was a personal encounter with the Father. It was a time to celebrate the intimacy with his Father. Jesus who prayed in the synagogue, who prayed with the apostles also found time for his personal communication with God. In prayer, Jesus heard the voice of the Father; and in ministry, he spoke the words of the Father. In prayer, Jesus saw the deeds of the Father and in ministry, he did the works of the Father. Jesus is the model for every Christian. Do we imitate the prayer life of Jesus?

The Call of the Apostles: The second theme of the passage is the selection of the apostles. Jesus who called the apostles to collaborate with him in the work of building up the kingdom of God. God continues to call many more to be his coworkers. We all belong to that category namely “the Chosen.” Many are called but few are chosen. But still more important is the faithfulness of the chosen people. “Those with him are called and chosen and faithful” (Rev 17:4). Saint Paul wrote: “I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service” (1 Tim 1:12). Am I faithful to my vocation to be a co-worker of Jesus?

The Preaching and Healing ministry of Jesus: People came to Jesus to be taught by him and healed by him. All types of people gathered around Jesus. Everyone was happy to be with Jesus: children, women, the so-called outcasts etc. Jesus welcomed everyone. There was no discrimination in his presence. Healing happened as a spontaneous result of an encounter with Christ because healing energy was flowing out from him. What type of energy is flowing out from me?

Response: The Lord takes delight in his people.
