COMMUNION, FAITH AND HUMILITY

Saint Paul addresses the Christian community at Corinth regarding their conduct during the Lord’s Supper. He criticizes their divisions and lack of unity, emphasizing the solemnity and reverence that should accompany this sacred meal. Paul reminds them of the significance of communion, where believers partake in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice until His return. He underscores the need for self-examination and unity among believers, highlighting the spiritual consequences of partaking unworthily.

The Gospel illustrates the faith and humility of a Centurion. The Roman officer, demonstrates profound faith in Jesus’ authority by sending Jewish elders to request healing for his servant. He acknowledges Jesus’ authority over sickness, recognizing that a word from Him would suffice. Jesus marvels at the centurion’s faith, contrasting it with the lack of faith, He often encounters among the Jewish people. Communion is not just a personal experience but a communal one, where believers are reminded of their shared identity in Christ and their responsibility to love one another. Divisions and selfishness hinder this unity, emphasizing the need for repentance and reconciliation before partaking.

We require Communion, Faith and Humility in remembering Christ’s sacrifice and obeying His commands. In communion, we remember His death and resurrection, proclaiming His victory until He returns. The centurion’s faith and humility exemplifies obedience to Jesus’ authority, demonstrating that true faith involves both belief and action. Communion calls for unity and remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice, while the centurion’s faith teaches us about humility and obedience. Together, they paint a picture of a vibrant faith community where diversity is embraced, unity is cherished, and Christ’s love is proclaimed through both word and deed.

Response: Proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
