SOURCE OF LIFE AND HEALING

God, the Creator of all, is the eternal source of life and healing. Throughout history, even when humanity turned away, God’s invitation to return has remained constant. Consider the Israelites, who, burdened by sin and estranged from God, were called back to the source of life and healing. Through the prophet Ezekiel, God revealed this source in a profound and transformative vision. Ezekiel saw the temple of Jerusalem, and from its threshold flowed a river of living water – a symbol of God’s boundless grace and power. This water carried within it the power to heal every infirmity, to restore every broken thing, and to bring life where there was once only death. As the water flowed from the temple, barren lands burst into life, teeming with vegetation; the desolate places were transformed into fertile ground. Wherever the water touched, life flourished, the deeper and wider it grew, a testament to the inexhaustible nature of God’s life-giving grace.

In the Gospel, we encounter the man who had been ill for thirty-eight years. His body was broken, and his spirit was weary. When Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be healed?” he began explaining his helplessness, but Jesus, the source of all life and healing, simply said, “Rise, take up your mat, and walk.” In an instant, the man was healed. His body was restored, his hope rekindled, and his life transformed. Jesus, the Living Water, had done what the troubled waters of Bethzatha could not. He brought not just physical healing, but the fullness of life. We are all, in some way, like the man at the pool. We carry wounds – spiritual, psychological, and physical. We struggle with sin, guilt, fear, and brokenness. We long for wholeness, for peace, for the fullness of life that only Jesus can give. This Lenten season, we are invited to go to the Living Water, Jesus Christ. Through the sacraments, He shares His life with us, pouring out His grace to heal and transform us.

Response: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
