COURAGE IN WITNESSING THE RESURRECTION

During this Easter season, we are reminded of the boldness of the apostles, particularly Peter and John, who stood before the Sanhedrin unafraid to proclaim the name of Jesus, despite the threats they faced. “For we cannot but speak of the things which we have seen and heard.” This declaration encapsulates the essence of true witness, which is an authentic sharing of one’s experience with the risen Christ. Today’s Gospel further emphasizes the call to action, as Jesus sends His disciples, to preach the gospel to every creature. This directive is a mandate that demands courage and commitment.

St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” This highlights the importance of embodying the message of the resurrection through actions that reflect love, compassion, and integrity. The courage to witness is not solely about verbal proclamation; it is also about living a life that radiates the joy and hope found in Christ’s resurrection. Philosopher Socrates famously stated, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” This call to introspection aligns with the Christian journey, where we are encouraged to reflect on our lives and the impact of our faith. The apostles became powerful witnesses because they were transformed by their encounter with the risen Lord.

As we reflect on these readings, let us take a moment to consider how we can be courageous witnesses in our own lives. Whether in families, workplaces, or communities, the call remains to share the joy of the resurrection and the hope it brings. Let not fear silence our voices; instead, may we proclaim the Good News boldly, inspired by the apostles and the saints who have gone before us. Let us pray for the courage to witness to the resurrection of Christ in our daily lives. May we be inspired by the apostles to live out our faith boldly and joyfully.

Response: I will thank you, Lord, for you have answered me.
