MONDAY, SECOND WEEK OF EASTER
Acts 4: 23-31 Ps 2: 1-9 Jn 3: 1-8
EMBRACE A NEW BEGINNING IN THE SPIRIT
Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a respected leader, approaches Jesus at night, likely out of fear or a desire for a private conversation. He acknowledges Jesus as a teacher sent from God, recognizing the signs and miracles that accompany Him. Yet, when Jesus speaks of being “born again,” Nicodemus struggles to understand, thinking in purely physical terms rather than spiritual ones. Jesus, however, is inviting him, and us too, into a radical shift of perspective. This rebirth is not a physical re-entry into the womb, as Nicodemus initially misunderstands, but a profound spiritual renewal. It is an invitation to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit, to undergo a renewal of the heart that yearns for God’s kingdom. This rebirth transcends human effort; it is a divine work that reshapes our very nature. The call to spiritual rebirth can feel daunting. Each day, we are called to let go of our old habits, fears, and attachments – and allow the Spirit to mould us anew. This process requires trust and perseverance, a willingness to never give up on ourselves or on God.
A young woman who once struggled with addiction shared, “I had tried everything to change, but I would always fall back into the same patterns.” Yet, after years of seeking help through therapy and support groups, she began to open herself to prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Over time, she experienced a profound transformation. “It was as if a veil had been lifted,” she confessed, “revealing a new life filled with peace and clarity.” Her story is a testament to the power of spiritual rebirth. While our own stories may not be as dramatic, the invitation to be “born again” is no less urgent. Each of us is invited to open ourselves to the Spirit’s work, allowing God to reshape us, heal us, and lead us into the fullness of life. Let us embrace this invitation with courage and hope, trusting that God is always at work within us.
Response: Blessed are all who trust in you, O Lord
