WEDNESDAY, SECOND WEEK OF EASTER
Acts 5: 17-26 Ps 34: 2-9 Jn 3: 16-21
HE EMPOWERS US TO PROCLAIM
The readings today invite us to reflect on God’s power, our mission as His people, and the courage required to witness to His love. In the first reading, we encounter the apostles, arrested and imprisoned for proclaiming the Gospel. Yet, the Lord miraculously frees them, commissioning them to return to the Temple and continue their mission. Undeterred by threats or persecution, they boldly declare the fullness of Christ’s message. This moment reveals how God intervenes in extraordinary ways to deliver His people and advance His mission. It also challenges us: Are we, like the apostles, willing to stand firm in our faith and proclaim Christ’s love, even when faced with opposition?
As ‘Pilgrims of Hope,’ we are reminded in the Final Document (For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission, no. 140) that our mission is to “proclaim the Reign of God, offering to every person, without exception, the mercy and love of the Father.” This universal call to evangelization prompts us to reflect: Do I have a personal mission statement that guides my life? Am I aware of my parish’s specific mission initiatives and actively participate in it?
In the Gospel, John speaks of God’s boundless love for the world, a love so immense that He sent His only Son, Jesus, so that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life. This love is not conditional or exclusive; it is offered to all. Yet, it demands a response. Will we accept this gift of love and allow it to transform us? Will we, in turn, share this love with others, treating everyone we encounter with the dignity and respect they deserve as children of God? Today, we are challenged to live with purpose boldly and joyfully. Let us respond to His call with gratitude and trust, knowing that the same God who freed the apostles and sent His Son for our salvation is with us always, guiding and empowering us to fulfil our calling.
Response: The lowly one called, and the Lord heard him.
