TUESDAY, NINETEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME<\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Memorial of St Clare <\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Ez 2:8–3:4\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Ps 119: 14, 24, 72, 103, 111, 131\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Mt 18: 1-5, 10, 12-14<\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/p>\r\n A HUMBLE AND PURE HEART<\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n \u201cHeart is more devious than any other thing, perverse too. Who can pierce its secrets? The Lord alone who can pierce the secrets of the human heart and scrutinize it.\u201d A person can be identified from what his\/her heart cherishes. Jesus teaches us that what defiles a person is what comes out of his\/her heart and not the outside factor. Ezekiel was sent to Israelites who were rebellious – a characteristic that can often be applied to us too. When we neglect to nurture our heart with the grace of God, there is a tendency for it to become rebellious. Reading, reflecting and meditating on the Word of God, makes us docile and attentive to the voice of God, which is heard in silence. The Word of God sheds light on the darker areas of life, which need transformation. One has to make constant effort to change oneself according to the ways of God. The grace of God works harder in a person who tries and never gives up.<\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/p>\r\n Prophet Ezekiel was invited to eat, the Word of God, and the to digest it in his words, actions and behaviour. We received the same invitation today. At times, it may not be easy to live according to God\u2019s Word, but we are called to remain faithful in times of trials and temptations. A humble heart that is attentive to the voice of God is indeed a pure heart. A person with a humble and pure heart has only God as his\/her treasure and possession. Jesus invites us to be childlike, to be humble and pure. A child of God does not seek to be greater than others for it knows that God is greater than everything and everyone. Trying to be great is a sign of pride that comes from a rebellious heart opposing the will of God. To have a humble and pure heart is a rare treasure that one can possess and those who have it are the blessed ones on this earth.
