Between the Servant of the Lord in Isaiah and Judas in the Gospel lies the entire drama of Holy Week; it reveals the contrast between trust and treachery, fidelity and self-interest, surrender and control.<\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/p>\r\n Isaiah\u2019s Servant speaks with quiet confidence: \u201cThe Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.\u201d His mission is born of his daily intimacy with God. Such an intimacy with God is a lesson for us too: \u201cMorning after morning He opens my ear that I may hear.\u201d Obedience is not imposed; it is awakened and the disciple opens his heart to welcome it joyously. And though he meets opposition and suffering, as he articulates it clearly, \u201cI gave my back to those who beat me,\u201d he does not turn back, for his strength is rooted, in the divine companionship which he cherishes: \u201cThe Lord God is my help; I shall not be put to shame.\u201d<\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/p>\r\n This trust stands in sharp contrast to Judas in today\u2019s Gospel. He sells his Master for thirty pieces of silver, the lowly price of a slave. When Jesus reveals that a betrayer sits at table with Him, Judas asks, \u201cSurely it is not I, Rabbi?\u201d calling Jesus not \u201cLord,\u201d but \u201cRabbi.\u201d That subtle difference reveals his heart. Judas no longer walks in the intimacy of discipleship; he keeps distance, choosing calculation over communion. Yet even in betrayal, Jesus remains serene and composed. He shares the meal, washes the feet, and extends friendship to the very person who will betray Him. Love does not withdraw, even when it is wounded. Paul rightly pens down, \u201cLove bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.\u201d<\/p>\r\n \u00a0<\/p>\r\n As we enter the final days before the Passion, these readings invite us to examine our own hearts.
