While the world admires wealth, power, success, and popularity, Jesus declares that the poor, the hungry, those who weep, and those who are persecuted are truly blessed. He teaches that true happiness is found not in worldly achievements but in a deep relationship with God.

Jesus begins by saying, “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.” Poverty in Luke is not merely the lack of material possessions but a spirit of complete dependence on God. Those who recognize their need for God experience the richness of His Kingdom. The second Beatitude, ‘Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be filled,” speaks of those who long for God, justice, holiness, and peace. Material success alone cannot satisfy the deepest desires of the human heart. Only God can fill the spiritual hunger that every person experiences. The third Beatitude reads, “Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.” Suffering, sorrow, and loss are part of human life, but they are never the end of the story. In Christ, every cross carries the promise of resurrection, and every tear can be transformed into joy through God’s love. Finally, Jesus says, “Blessed are you when people hate you… because of the Son of Man.” Following Christ may bring rejection or misunderstanding, but faithful disciples share in His mission and eternal reward.

The Beatitudes invite us to live by the values of God’s Kingdom rather than the values of the world. They challenge us to trust God, seek holiness, remain hopeful in suffering, and stay faithful even when it is difficult. Through the gospel Jesus invites us to trust in Him rather than in wealth or possessions. We need to hunger for God’s Word through prayer, Scripture and the Eucharist. The Beatitudes also invite us to show compassion to the poor, the lonely and the marginalized, reflecting the love of Christ in everyday life.

Response: Listen, O daughter; pay heed and give ear.

Copyright ©2026 ©Springs of Living Water https://springs.carmelmedia.in

WEDNESDAY, TWENTY THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME 1 Cor 7: 25-31 Ps 45: 11-12, 14-17 Lk 6: 20-26 FINDING JOY IN GOD’S KINGDOM The Beatitudes that are mentioned in today’s gospel (Luke 6:20–26) reveal the heart of Jesus’ teaching and present a revolutionary vision of God’s Kingdom.
