WEDNESDAY, EIGHTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord
Dn 7:9-10,13-14 Ps 97 2 Pt 1:16-19 Lk 9:28-36
THIS IS MY SON, THE BELOVED
On the high mountain, Peter, James, and John behold Christ in His divine glory. His face shines like the sun, and His clothes become dazzling white. Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appear, representing the Law and the Prophets. Then, from the cloud, the voice of God proclaims, “This is My Son, the Beloved: listen to Him!” These powerful words reveal the heart of our faith: Jesus is the Son of God, and we are called to listen to Him. God commands us not merely to hear, but to actively follow Christ’s teachings. Just as Peter, James, and John were transformed by witnessing His glory, we too are called to be changed by listening to Him. This personal encounter strengthened their faith, and it should strengthen ours. Like the apostles, we live in a world filled with distractions and falsehoods. Yet, we must remain attentive to the voice of Jesus. He calls us to trust in Him, to walk in His light, and to persevere in faith.
The Transfiguration also foreshadows our own transformation. St. Paul reminds us that we shall be changed “in the twinkling of an eye” at the last trumpet. If we listen to Christ and follow Him, we too will share in His glory. The radiant light of the Transfiguration is a glimpse of the eternal joy that awaits the faithful in God’s kingdom. St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, known for her “Little Way,” teaches us that holiness is found in childlike trust and love for Jesus. She reminds us that we do not need great deeds to be close to God, but rather, a humble heart that listens to His voice and follows Him in simplicity. Like St. Thérèse, let us embrace our smallness and trust completely in Christ, knowing that He will transform us in His love.
Response: The Lord is king, most high above all the earth.
