Sir 48: 1-14 Ps 97: 1-7 Mt 6: 7-15
TRUSTING THE GOD WHO HEARS
At dawn, when the sky is still quiet and the world has not yet begun to rush, there is a gentle reminder: God is present, powerful, and listening. In Sirach 48:1–14, the prophet Elijah appears like fire -bold, fearless, and filled with God’s power. His life shows that when a person trusts God completely, even the impossible can happen. Elijah did not act for himself; he acted so that people would turn back to God. His life was a witness to God’s authority over all things.
The Psalmist proclaims the Lord’s greatness, specifying how the nature sings his glory. He reminds us that God is not distant – His presence fills the earth. While idols and false powers fade away, God alone stands firm and worthy of worship. In Matthew 6:7 15, Jesus teaches a different but deeply connected truth: how to approach this powerful God. Instead of many empty words, He invites us into a simple, trusting relationship through the Lord’s Prayer. Here, God is not only the mighty ruler but also “Our Father.” This shows both His greatness and His closeness. We are called to trust Him for our needs, seek His will, and offer forgiveness to others.
The common theme across all three readings is this: God is powerful and sovereign, yet He invites us into a personal relationship of trust, prayer, and faithfulness. Elijah shows faith in action, the psalm reveals God’s glory, and Jesus teaches us how to live in daily connection with Him. In quiet faith and simple prayer, we come closer to the God who is both mighty and near. Therefore, three simple applications can be drawn from today’s readings for our meditation and reflection:
- Trust God’s power in your life – Like Elijah, believe that God can work through you, even in difficult situations.
- Recognize God’s presence daily – Take moments to see His hand in creation, events, and people around you.
- Pray with sincerity – Speak to God simply and honestly, trusting Him as a loving Father, and practice forgiveness.
Response: Rejoice in the Lord, you just.
